The Trenton Steel of the Southern Indoor Football League announced the signing of 6-foot-1 linebacker Mike Andrews, who played collegiately at Youngstown State University.
Previous to signing with the Steel, Andrews played for the Huntingdon (W.Va.) Heroes of the American Indoor Football League, finishing the 2008 season with 38 tackles, six sacks, eight tackles for loss and eight pass breakups. His indoor football career started with the Mahoning Valley (Ohio) Thunder a year earlier. That season was just as impressive, with 32 total tackles, two sacks, three forced fumbles and 21 QB hurries.
Andrews landed in indoor football after having played in NFL Europe in 2007 for the Rhein Fire and was invited to attend the Detroit Lions training camp in 2006.
While playing collegiately at Youngstown State, Andrews started 42 games at linebacker and was named Gateway Conference Defensive Player of the Week three times and Sports Network National Defensive Player of the week. His career boasted 290 total tackles, 32 tackles for loss, five sacks and six interceptions.
The Steel open their inaugural season in the Southern Indoor Football League March 19 at the Richmond Raiders, with their home-opener at 7:05 p.m. March 26 at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton.
