La Crosse, WI: Year two of the La Crosse Spartans begins this weekend when training camp opens for the 2011 season.
Conditioning tests and team meetings will take place tonight, while official practice begins on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at La Crosse Logan High School. Sunday's sessions will feature a practice from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 2:30-4:30 p.m. with both sessions open to media and the public.
The Spartans, who finished last season 3-11, open camp with 38 players, only 13 of which played last season for the Spartans. "After a long off-season, it's nice to get back to work and on the field," Spartans General Manager Chris Kokalis said. "We're excited to have a good group of returnees and a good group of new talent that hopefully can take us to the next level."
The second-year franchise will have 14 practices prior to their season opener on February 19th at the La Crosse Center against division-rival Chicago Slaughter in the IFL Kickoff Classic. Kokalis along with Head Coach Gilbert Brown and his staff will cut from 38 players down to 30 after practice on Monday the 7th. The second round of cuts will take place after February 13th's practice as the roster will be trimmed to the final 25-man roster.
Individual game tickets for the La Crosse Spartans second season in the Indoor Football League are on sale now at the La Crosse Center box office. Tickets for all seven home games including the nationally televised home opener are available beginning at just $7. The first 1,000 fans through doors on the 19th will receive a pair of thundersticks courtesy of Ashley Furniture.
