(RICHMOND) - The Richmond Raiders of the SIFL announced the signings of two more players for the 2011 season; signing Indoor veteran Redd Thompson and two- way performer Larry Wiiliams. Redd Thompson is a local product; starring at Highland Springs HS before a stellar career at Virginia State where he remains one of the most productive wide receivers in school history. Thompson finished his career at VSU as a candidate for the Harlon Hill trophy; the Division II version of the Heisman Trophy. Redd's productivity continues at the professional level. Thompson has averaged over 60 catches per season in each of his five professional seasons.
Like Thompson; Larry Williams is a graduate of Highland Springs HS. Larry went on to play defensive back at West Virginia. Larry has made his mark in the Indoor Game as a defensive back, wide receiver and kick returner."Larry is the type of two-way athlete that is essential to success in the Indoor Game"; remarked Gary Criswell Business Operations / Player Personnel Director. "Anytime you can get quality minutes at both wide receiver and defensive back from the same player it really allows you some flexibility with your game roster."
The Raiders will open the preseason at the Richmond Coliseum on Friday, March 11th with a game versus the Harrisburg Stampede. They host the Trenton Steel in their regular season opener on Saturday, March 19.
