BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - The Bloomington Extreme Indoor Football Team is pleased to announce that they have signed linebacker Winston Taylor.
The 6'1" 240 lbs. linebacker from the University of Illinois, last played for the Extreme late in the 2008 season during the teams run to the league championship game, will re-join the team for their 2011 campaign. As a member of the Extreme over the course of 3 seasons, Taylor compiled 148 ½ tackles (23 for loss), 5 sacks, and 1 interception in 22 games. In his only full season with the team (2006), Taylor played 14 games, recording 106 tackles (16 ½ for loss) and 5 quarterback sacks. Taylor spent two seasons on the practice squad as a member of the Miami Dolphins and spent one of those seasons assigned to the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe.
The Mount Zion High School product went on to play two years Eastern Illinois University before transferring to the University of Illinois for his final two years of eligibility. During his senior season at Illinois, Taylor played and started 12 games for the Illini, recording 108 tackles (4 ½ for loss), 3 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. Taylor resides in Springfield, IL, where he is a legislative liaison for the Capital Development Board.
"Winston's addition to our defense adds leadership and tenacity", states Head Coach Mike Murray. "He plays with a sense of urgency and brings an element of nastiness to the game. We are very pleased to have Winston back as a part of the Extreme organization."
The Extreme have released 6'5", 350 lbs. reserve offensive lineman, Jacoby Collins. Collins was a member of the Extreme during the 2010 season.
The Bloomington Extreme will open training camp Sunday, February 13, 2011 and kick off the season two weeks later, Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Richmond Revolution with a 3:05 pm start time.
