HARRISBURG, PA (January 18, 2011) -Eugene Goodman, a fifth-year pro who has totaled over 3,500 combined rushing and return yards in his career, has been re-signed by the Harrisburg Stampede for his third season with the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) team.
After lettering for four seasons with the Liberty Flames of the Big South Conference and tallying 2,128 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns, Goodman made his professional debut in 2007 with the Columbus Lions, then of the World Indoor Football League (WIFL).
He promptly made his mark on indoor football leading the WIFL in rushing with 558 rushing yards and 21 scores on the ground. He also averaged 22.7 yards on his 56 kickoff returns, had a league-best five return touchdowns and was named the WIFL Special Teams Player of the Year.
Following the 2007 WIFL season Goodman signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League and then signed with the Baltimore Mariners of the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) for the 2008 campaign.
Goodman picked up where he left off leading the AIFA in kick returns with a 27.1 yards per return average and finished ninth in the league with 171 rushing yards.
In 2009 he made the move to Harrisburg and continued to dominate from his running back position and as a return man. He finished fifth in the AIFA with 344 rushing yards and tied for the league lead with a 27.2 yards per return average. He also had two returns for scores.
The 2010 brought more accomplishments for Goodman as he totaled 335 rushing yards, good for third in the AIFA, scored 23 rushing touchdowns, and 28 overall, and finished third in the league with a 27.6 kick return average.
In four professional seasons Goodman has totaled 1,414 rushing yards and 65 rushing touchdowns. He also has over 2,000 kick returns yards and nine scores on returns.
Stampede General Manager and Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski commented, "Geno is an explosive, quick-footed back, but really he's just a tough running back. He does his blocking work and works hard to improve every week. I believe you're going to see the best year #25 has had in Harrisburg so far!"
