(RICHMOND) - The Richmond Raiders began the 2011 season by hosting a Press Conference on Saturday, January 15 at the Richmond Coliseum. The team took this opportunity to unveil a new logo, new uniforms, introduced their new staff members, and gave a brief preview of the new league affiliation with the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL). The Raiders announced their opponent will be the Harrisburg Stampede for the preseason game set for Friday, March 11th at 7pm in the Richmond Coliseum. The Raiders and the Stampede are divisional rivals and will face off during the regular season in Harrisburg. Raiders Head Coach Chris Simpson added; "It is always great to have a preseason game so the players on the verge of making the roster can compete for a job in a true game day environment. Playing a divisional rival helps set the tone for the regular season."
The Raiders workout session Saturday was open to the public and saw Bryan Randall lead the offense though drills that included former UVA standout Deyon Williams and 2008 Dudley Award winner Rodney Landers. Defensive newcomers included Alan Michael Cash (NC State / Varina) and Ahmad Hawkins (UVA). The Raiders open training camp March 4th .
The preseason game is part of the Raiders' 2011 season ticket package. Season and individual game tickets are available now by calling the Raiders (804-780-4970 x140) The Raiders host the Trenton Steel in the season opener on Saturday March 19.
