TRENTON, NJ (January 11, 2010) - The Trenton Steel continue to add depth to their roster with the signing of defensive end/linebacker Melik Brown (6'2", 275, North Carolina University) for the 2011 season. Previous to signing with the Steel, Brown helped lead the Baltimore Mariners to a 2010 AIFA championship.
During his 2010 season with the Mariners, Brown finished the season 3rd on his team in tackles, 2nd in the league for sacks and 1st in the league for tackles for loss.
Prior to playing in Baltimore, Brown started his arena football career with the Harrisburg Stampede in 2009 where he was named team MVP and was part of the league all-star team after putting up 19 solo tackles and 8 sacks for the season.
While at North Carolina University, Brown was a 4-year starter at DE or linebacker. The team captain and most team spirit award winner set a DE squat record at 660 lbs. Brown was also awarded various play maker of the week and special teams player of the week awards.
"To sign a player of Melik's ability is a great steal," said head coach Jeff Hoffman recently about his newest addition. "Here is a guy who should be playing at a higher level and to have him play here in Trenton shows the caliber of the talented team we are putting together."
The Trenton Steel will kick off their inaugural season in the SIFL in March 2011 and will play all of their home games at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, NJ. Tickets packages for the team's premiere season are now available with season tickets available for as low as $60.00. Tickets are available by visiting the Steel on the web at www.trentonsteel.com or by calling the Steel offices at (609)656-3300. Don't miss the chance to be part of RIVETING INDOOR FOOTBALL!
