Canton, Ohio - Following a productive league meeting in Marion, Ohio over the weekend, the Continental Indoor Football League has released its 2011 schedule, the sixth season for the league. The season schedule will consist of six teams, including a travel team based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. As with previous seasons, the travel team will allow each team to play six games at home, while traveling to four.
The season will open on Saturday, February 26th as the league returns to Port Huron, Michigan for the first time since 2007. The Predators will host Indianapolis in the weekend's only game.
The remaining four, along with Port Huron and Indianapolis, will be in action starting on March 5th as the Dayton Silverbacks, kicking off their sixth season, will play host to Indianapolis. Port Huron will travel to Marion to face the Blue Racers in their home opener and the 2010 CIFL Champion Cincinnati Commandos will begin their title defense at home against the Chicago Knights. The Knights will play their home opener on April 9th.
The final weekend of the regular season is scheduled for May 28th, but will also feature a Thursday night game as the Predators travel to Dayton, Ohio to face the Silverbacks on May 26th.
The playoffs will begin on June 4th with four teams qualifying for a shot to be crowned the next CIFL Champions. The format for the playoffs is 1vs4 and 2vs3 with the highest seed hosting, based on arena availability. The winners of the semi-final games will play on June 11th in the CIFL Championship Game.
Additional post-season announcements are to be expected in the coming weeks for the CIFL and additional efforts will be made to create opportunities for fans to travel with their teams during the season.
For those unable to attend on the road, the CIFL GameCenter will return for another season featuring live stats, audio and fan chat.
All Friday and Saturday games kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Sunday games are set for 2:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted throughout the season.
