Harrisbug Stampede Still Kicking with Former MVP Eminger
HARRISBURG, PA (January 10, 2011) - It takes all phases of the game to win in indoor football and that is why Harrisburg Stampede General Manager and Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski was pleased to announce the signing of veteran kicker Andy Eminger to the 2011 Stampede squad.
Nowotarski noted, "In my opinion, you have to have a QB that can throw the ball and make your offense move, as well as have an outstanding kicker, especially in this league with the uno. Andy gives us that weapon at the kicking spot. He is a big time athlete who can kick and he has done it at all levels. Stampede special teams just became a little more special."
Eminger has played and succeeded in the Arena Football League (AFL), Arena Football League 2 (af2), American Indoor Football Association (AIFA), and American Indoor Football League (AIFL).
With his success in arena and indoor football Eminger has also been invited to six NFL training camps (Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, St. Louis Rams, and Washington Redskins).
After a college career, which started at Ohio State, continued at Dean Junior College, where he earned All-Conference honors, and finished at Florida Atlantic University, where he is still listed in the Owls' record books, Eminger made his professional debut with the Canton Legends of the AIFL in 2005.
He had an outstanding season being named the AIFL Special Teams MVP with 22 tackles, and kicking 16 of 20 field goals and 57 of 61 extra points.
In 2006 he split time between the Green Bay Blizzard of the af2 and the Daytona Beach Thunder of the AIFL. For the Thunder he was named an AIFL All-Star and Team Most Valuable Player.
He set league records for points in a game by a kicker with 27, field goals in a game (seven), and one point unos in a game (seven). He also set league marks for 50+ yard field goals in a game (51, 53, and 58), longest field goal (58), and most consecutive extra points (31); he later broke his own record with 36 consecutive PATs, and set the mark for most field goals in a season with 27.
Following his stellar 2006 season in Daytona Beach, in 2007 and 2008 he played for the New York Dragons of the AFL and Florida Firecats of af2.
In 2009 Eminger made his Stampede debut. Playing in only eight games, he still finished among the league leaders in field goals (fourth) and kicker scoring (fourth).
The 2010 season brought another trip to the AFL for Eminger as he signed with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. In his debut for the Dawgz he went 7 for 7 on extra point attempts and hit two of two field goal tries against the Tampa Bay Storm.
