FLORENCE, KY – With a combination of signed and prospective Northern Kentucky River Monsters in attendance, about 40 players went through the paces Saturday the Midwest Hoops Complex.
“It was a positive step for our organization,” said River Monsters head coach Rodney Swanigan. “I felt like we got our feet wet for the first time.”
For the first time ever, it was a chance for the River Monster coaching staff to evaluate players in a non-combine style setting. There was also the ability for players already signed to hit the field as a group.ta
Several players took advantage of the setting to make a lasting impression on the staff. Second round draft pick George Frisch showed the skills that excited the organization during the Ultimate Indoor Football League combine. Veterans Dominick Goodman and Tony Stallings really displayed their talents along with their veteran leadership.
Quarterback Ryan Wells “put himself in the mix” with his performance during the workout. Wells, who attended the organizations first open tryout, has continued to impress with his ability to throw the ball.
Other unsigned players that put themselves in position to earn training camps invites were linebacker Dumorris Powell, Austin Goss, Shaun Gibson and Brett Hamblen.
Northern Kentucky plans one more open tryout on January 8th as they attempt to finalize its training camp roster before camp begins on January 31. The camp is tentatively scheduled to be held at the Midwest Hoops Complex.
