Country Singer Tyler Stephens to Sing National Anthem at Opening Home Game
Tyler, born and raised in the bluegrass state is certainly proud of his heritage and history.
As many have already discovered, there is definitely something in the water of Eastern Kentucky because the region is continuously bringing forth successful artist like Keith Whitley, Patty Loveless, Loreta Lynn, Billy Ray Cyrus, Ricky Skaggs, and many more. This is where Tyler’s journey begins.
Tyler was born in 1992, to Samuel Stephens of Prestonsburg, Kentucky and Melissa Hall of Hindman, Kentucky. Being born into a family of no musicians or singers makes it unbelievable that Tyler is where he is today. However, Tyler’s grandmother, Porcia Hall introduced Tyler to music early. As a small child he would visit his grandmother’s house daily just to listen to music and punch the buttons on the cassette player. May God only know how many buttons he probably broke; but, he did begin to do one thing. As he listened to the music Tyler would memorize the word and before his family knew it Tyler was singing to the top of his lungs. It definitely had to torture them Tyler claims; but, with the release of his first CD and hopefully the beginning of a successful music career, everyone will realize it is no longer torture to the ears.
As years passed Tyler began to grow into a young man; but, rarely sang. The singing that had started at his grandmother’s house had sadly died, excluding Tyler entering his school talent show once a year.
Several years of Tyler just singing to himself in the shower and in his room had passed before him. In fact, it lingered until Tyler was looking High School dead in the eyes. As with every teenager, he had no idea of what to expect or what was to come. But, he never expected that high school would re-introduce him to music. Tyler entered Big Sandy Idol (a singing and performance contest made possible by the Big Sandy Community and Technical College Music and Drama Department.) his sophomore, junior, and senior year. However, Tyler’s mind was anywhere but on the competition the first two years he entered and continued to remain on everything but singing until he auditioned for Big Sandy Idol his senior year. During the audition, Tyler had a bad; but, life changing moment. He was completely un-prepared and his audition was horrible. So bad, he had completely embarrassed himself. Luckily, Tyler was accepted to perform in the second round and upon finding out, Tyler told himself: “They chose me to perform in the second round, even after a bad audition, so I cannot let them down.”
With that Tyler went home that same night, began to select a song, and practice practice practice! He continued to practice every day and night until the day of the show had quickly approached him. Excitement was bursting and show time had finally arrived. Overwhelmed with nervousness, Tyler stepped out to perform and began to sing. The end of the song suddenly was approached Tyler claims; but, the excitement definitely wasn’t.
As the drum roll began the winner of Big Sandy Idol at Allen Central High School was about to be announced. Then Tyler was announced as the winner. Winning this contest was a big accomplishment for Tyler because he had entered Big Sandy Idol two prior years. But, more than anything, winning made Tyler realize that music is where he wanted to be.
Now, Tyler being excited to begin and pursue a music career, realized he needed recorded material to promote himself with. Tyler had no idea of where or how to select a studio to pursue his project with. Until, he discovered Big Appal Studio and Owner / Producer Dan Huff. Tyler knew immediately that this was the studio and who he wanted to record at.
Tyler and Dan began making Tyler’s idea project come to life in January 2010. With many hours of hard work and dedication from Dan especially, the project was completed in late June.
With his first CD successfully completed; it was now time to begin promoting Tyler and his music. Tyler working alone began to organize his own career and promotional plan. Scheduling shows, completing /mailing press kits, ordering /designing promotional products, selling /distributing products, and web site /fan management was all being completed by Tyler. Tyler had suddenly became adapted to late nights and early mornings; but, he knew to be successful his dedication is and was required.
Tyler hopes that his hard work and dedication will one day pay off. However, he knows that the key component to any artist success is their family, friends, and fans. May God Bless them all. With that said, Tyler encourages you to purchase his CD from the On-Line Store and to be a part of the audience at an upcoming show/event.
In conclusion, Tyler would like to thank you for all of your much needed support.
Thank You and God Bless,
