BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - The Bloomington Extreme Indoor Football Team is pleased to announce that they have signed defensive end, Sean Kelly, whom the team acquired via trade this past September.
The 6'3" 250 lbs. defensive end from Florida A&M University will join the Extreme for his third year of play in the Indoor Football League. Kelly was acquired from the Sioux City Bandits on September 1, 2010, to fulfill the Future Considerations from a trade that had previously sent WR Carl Sims to Sioux City during the early portion of the 2010 season.
Sean Kelly played the past two seasons with the Bandits and was highly sought after prior to signing with the Extreme. During the 2010 season, Kelly recorded 36 tackles (9½ tackles for loss), 6 sacks, a safety, an interception, 3 passes broken up, and 2 forced fumbles, to go along with 5 blocked kicks. In 2009, Kelly recorded 35 tackles (7½ for losses), 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
"Adding a player of Sean Kelly's stature, coinciding with the return of Antonio Ficklin (injury) is a big boost to our defensive unit", states Head Coach Mike Murray. "The defensive line has been an area of strength for the Extreme over the past couple of seasons and Sean makes us even better in this area."
Kelly, a native of Tallahassee, Florida, played collegiately at Florida A&M University, where as a senior, he was named to the Division I-AA and All-MEAC Conference 1st Team defenses. Kelly, recorded 13 quarterback sacks that season, will now join an Extreme defense that ranked 2nd in the IFL in points allowed (31.1 per game), and was 5th in quarterback sacks with 30 during the 2010 campaign.
The Bloomington Extreme will open training camp Sunday, February 13, 2011 and kick off the season two weeks later, Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Richmond Revolution with a 3:05 pm start time.
