HARRISBURG, PA (December 13, 2010) - After two seasons as an understudy under an All-Pro and a stellar performance in the 2010 Kickoff Classic quarterback Andre Coles is ready to stake his claim as the leader of the Harrisburg Stampede offense after being signed by the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) club.
"I was afforded the opportunity to learn the indoor game as a backup to a former MVP of the league (Rob Flowers) with the Reading Express and now I am ready to put everything I have learned into action as a QB for the Stampede. I was a part of a team that won a championship, therefore I know what kind of commitment, passion and hard work it takes to reach that level of success and I am ready and excited for the opportunity to bring a championship to Harrisburg. I want another ring and I won't settle for anything less!" commented Coles.
After being an All-Public performer at quarterback for Philadelphia's Abraham Lincoln High School, Coles took his talents to Kutztown University. He started his collegiate career as a redshirt freshman for the Golden Bears in 2001 and then saw action in two games as a quarterback in 2002.
In 2003 he made the transition from quarterback to receiver and appeared in four games. By 2004 he was firmly entrenched in Kutztown's roster, playing primarily at tight end, and played in all ten games in each of the 2004 and 2005 seasons. In 2008 Coles made his pro debut in with Reading as the Express backup QB behind Flowers. Under then Reading Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski the Express finished the regular season 10-4 and advanced to the conference championship game.
In 2009 the Express again compiled an impressive (11-3) regular season record and with a three game postseason run won their first national championship by defeating the Wyoming Cavalry, in Casper, 65-42.
Before the 2010 season Coles was selected to play in the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) Kickoff Classic. In his first professional start, he quickly showed his abilities throwing three touchdowns in just two quarters of play.
"I have been with Andre for the last few seasons. He is a hard worker and good kid to be around and is the type of player that is liked by his teammates. Dre [Coles] has been in a back-up role as a QB, but he certainly has indoor knowledge and experience. He did get a chance to start last season in the AIFA Kick-Off Classic and got to show he is a big kid with a big arm. He just wants a chance to play and you got to respect that in any player," Stampede General Manager and Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski.
