RENO, NV (November 29, 2010) - The Reno Barons has signed former Wolf Pack Running Back Brandon Ford-Fragger and Outside Linebacker Carl LaGrone Jr. Running Back Keithen Valentine of Kansas State, and indoor football veteran linemen Dalonte Smith and Archie Alexander II have also joined the Barons.
Brandon Ford-Fragger (5'9 195 Nevada) spent the 2010 NFL Rookie camp with the San Francisco 49ers. During his time at Nevada (2006-2009), he completed 184 carries for 800 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 22 receptions for 176 yards and two touchdowns along with 17 special teams returns for 317 yards.
Carl LaGrone Jr. (6' 330 Nevada) during his time at Nevada as a 4-year starter, he earned the Most Improved Defensive Player Award (2002) and was a 2-time All-WAC Honorable Mention Outside Linebacker (2002 and 2003). LaGrone also earned Team "Big Hitter" of the Year (2003). Since leaving Nevada, he has held coaching positions at the University of Idaho and locally at McQueen High School.
Keithen Valentine (5'8 195 Kansas State) is a versatile running back. Keithen Valentine started his collegiate career in Junior College at Mississippi Delta Community College where he was a 2 year starter and led Trojans rushing in 2008. Valentine was elected to the 2008 MACJC All-star game, where he earned Overall MVP honors. Following his JUCO career, he received a football scholarship at Kansas State University. He rushed for 486 yards and scored 7 touchdowns, and led the Big 12 in yards per attempt with 7.7 yards a touch in 2009.
Dalonte Smith (6'2 280 Hardin Simmons) comes to the Barons after playing for the Georgia Force (AFL), South Georgia Wildcats (af2), San Angelo Stampede and Abilene Ruff Riders (IFL), Lincoln Capitals and Tri-City Diesel (NIFL) and San Jose Wolves (AIFA).
Archie Alexander II (6'8 355 Colorado Northwestern) is described as a strong, tall but low level player. Alexander has had stints with the Lincoln Capitals, St. Joseph Cyclones and Greensboro Revolution (NIFL), Austin Turfcats and Abilene Ruff Riders (IFL), and Baltimore Blackbirds, Baltimore Mariners, and Ogden Knights (AIFA).
"As we start rounding out our roster for training camp, we continue to build a team with players who truly understand and respect the chance they are being afforded to play a game they love," stated Barons Head Coach Major Harris."
