b]Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks announced today that they have finalized their Coaching staff for their 2011 inaugural season. Among the hires are two former Head Coaches in the Indoor game. Each individual has local ties to the Lehigh Valley, a quality that was important to the Steelhawks front office.
"We brought in Coach Britt from Virginia because of his reputation and recruiting ability in the indoor game," stated Executive Vice President Mike Clark. "He went through his interview process to find the individuals that fit his system, and learned early in the process that the local talent as far coaching exceeded his expectations. We truly feel that we have five leaders teaching our players."
Kelly Logan, a Native of Willingboro New Jersey, brings to the Steelhawks five years of professional indoor football experience. In 2006, Coach Logan was named as Defense Coordinator for the Reading Express. In 2007 he was promoted to the Head Coach position for the Express and was subsequently selected as the "2007 AIFA Head Coach of the Year. As the previous Head coach for both the Lehigh Valley Outlawz and the Harrisburg Stampede, Coach Logan showed his commitment and dedication, traveling up and down the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Al Forsythe, an Easton native, joins the Steelhawks entering his 9th year overall coaching and 6th in the indoor profession. He spent 3 seasons ('08-'10) as the New Jersey Revolution's (AIFA) Head Coach and Offensive coordinator. Before going to the Revs, Coach Al rigorously guided the now defunct Lehigh Valley Outlawz to back to back playoff seasons ('06,'07) and was awarded an assistant spot during the first CIFL All-Star game. Coach Al got thrown to the wolves right away to start his coaching career, becoming Head Coach and Offensive coordinator at age 22 for the start up Lehigh Valley Steelers(CFA). The 3 1/2 year stint('02-'05) with the Steelers produced a 36 win and 12 loss record, along with a first ever undefeated championship season in '04.
Kevin O'Hanlon, has coached football for 14 years, with his start coaching at Sussex Central High School in Millsboro DE, as their offensive line coach for 3 seasons, before moving back home to Philadelphia. Most recently he served as the Head Coach and owner of the Philadelphia Patriots (Semi-Pro) for two seasons, and this past season the Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the South West Philadelphia Falcons.
Sheldon Stewart, comes to the Steelhawks with an extensive Coaching background. The New Jersey native has spent the last two seasons working with Coach Kelly Logan with both the Reading Express in 2008 and with the NJ Kings in 2009. After a shortened playing career that included stints in the XFL and NIFL, the licensed personal trainer and power lifter followed his faith and has become an active member of the Member Living Faith Christian Center in Pennsauken, New Jersey. Stewart currently works full- time for the US Postal Service in Palmyra, NJ and hopes to help Coach Britt and the rest of the Steelhawks staff bring a Championship back to the Lehigh Valley.
The new Coaching staff, along with Coach Britt and the rest of the team will now focus on a December 6th Open Tryout where they hope to fill out more spots on their February training camp roster. The Steelhawks open their season on the road, February 26th against division rival Reading Express. The team makes its home debut on Saturday, March 19th at 7:00 pm at the Stabler Arena on the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University.
Season ticket packages are on sale for as low as $8 per game, and include great perks such as season ticket parties, player meet and greets, and discounts on merchandise. For more information of tickets and performance partnerships with the Steelhawks, call 610-282-3100. [/b]
