The 2011 preseason for the Richmond Raiders has begun with an impressive series of player signings, a new league affiliation and a great response from their fans and corporate partners. "We are very happy and excited;" remarked Gary Criswell; Business Operations Manager. "We began by signing a core group of local Indoor Football players that fans will recognize; starting with key Richmond Raider players from 2010. We feel really good about how these established players responded to our organization; then we had a phenomenal first open tryout."
Due to these early successes; the second open tryout originally scheduled for December 11 has been replaced with private workouts that will address specific positions. Head Coach Chris Simpson explains;
" From a personnel standpoint, we are very close to maximizing our preseason roster as mandated by the league. We need to focus our recruitment in a couple of very specific areas of need. We will be conducting a couple of private, invitation only workouts for prospects as we identify them. We take calls from experienced players every day." Notable signings for 2011 include Virginia Tech alumni Brian Randall (2010 IFL MVP), Lawrence Lewis, Noland Burchette, Chris Seegar and Vince Hall. UVA grads include Ahmad Hawkins (2 time All-AFL Defensive Back), Brandon Isaiah, and Deyon Williams. The state's FCS ranks are represented on the Raiders by Stephen Cason (W&M), Will PatrickMU), Alonzo Coleman (Hampton U)and Derek Stoudt (UR).
Those players already registered on-line for the second tryout will be contacted by the Raiders front office. Please visit our website at www.richmondraidersprofootball.com for more details about the 2011 season.
