Kansas City, MO – The owners of the Central Plains Football League approved the 2011 schedule early November and with the addition of 7 new teams, the CPFL will have a total 12 teams for the upcoming season. The 12 teams that will make up the 2011 CPFL will be as far North as Omaha, NE and as far South as Cape Girardeau, MO. The CPFL will have 5 returning teams from last season; the 2010 Champions, Junction City Force, Topeka Thunder, Missouri Mustangs, Kansas City Bulldogs and the Springfield Lightning. The new teams are Omaha City Rhinos, Mills County Militia, Weston Rebels, West Central Warriors, Jackson Apaches and the SEMO Copperheads. The league will be divided up into 2 conferences and then 2 divisions in each conference. “The league is headed in the right direction and the growth that I have seen so far proves it”. Owner of the Springfield Lightning, Kyle Grozinger said. Kyle continued with “after our league meeting, the new owners were told that this is no backyard football and they seem to understand. The completion will be like no other year. It will be tough year”. The season plans to kickoff Saturday March 19th 2011 and will continue until the championship game that is set for Saturday June 18th. Each team’s schedule will have 5 home games and 5 away games that will include playing their division opponents twice, the other division in their Conference once and three other teams in the other Conference. The playoffs will start on Saturday June 4th that will include division winners then the top 2 teams from that Conference. The Conference winners then will play for the CPFL Championship at a natural site in Kansas City. The 4 teams that do not make the playoff will be put in a lower tier bracket and the co-founder of the league Terry Winfree is taking a term from his fantasy football leagues and calling it the Toilet Bowl which will be played on the same day and at the same location as the CPFL Championship game. “Each year I see teams fall apart because they are out of the playoffs and have nothing to play for. I hope by adding the lower tier bracket it will keep teams around for the long haul”. The co-founder of the league Terry Winfree said. “I want to think the CPFL for giving us the opportunity to play in the league. I thought it would be odd going from a 11 man team to 8 man football, but the transition has been smooth so far”. The owner of the Omaha City Rhinos Trestin said. Check each team’s sites for location, kickoff times and ticket prices.
