Next week is already set to be record breaking! A strong show out by both the offense and defense of the Rebels has led them to a 1-0 record to start the season. Quarterback Larry Carson hit WR Chris Clark and WR Jamaur White on touchdown strikes and Dave Younkins powered his way on a long touchdown run. LB/FB Earl Work once again played the spoiler and took a short toss for a touchdown in a score happy second half. The rebels defense let up only 8 points and 6 completions, none of which were for more than 10 yards in a strong outing. LB Earl Work intercepted an early pass and took it in for a touchdown. The stout Rebels defense forced a fumble in the first half and DE Brandon Carter recovered and rumbeled his way for a 23 yard touchdownCB/WR Darral Boyd also forced a big second half fumble and DB Frank Swick recovered to seal the 51-8 victory. From Speed pageThe Steel City Speed start off the season 0-1 suffering a tough loss to the Pittsburgh Rebels. The Speed showed off their talent but after a few good drives down field the Speed weren't able to captialize. The Speed are a young group of players that came out and showed a lot of potential and a lot of heart, especially for this being the first time the players played with together, as well as the team showing up in full force for the first time; with the addition to a few new players signed just days before the season opener. Managing to fix their rookie mistakes, the Speed are moving forward and getting focused on their next opponent.

WEEK 1 HARMAR HURRICANES VS. SHENANGO VALLEY STORM It didn’t take long for the fans and players of Shenango Valley to see why the men from Harmarville call themselves the ‘Hurricanes.’ On his very first offensive play, Harmarville quarterback Camdin Crouse fired a 40-yard bomb to wideout Stephen Conto to give his team a quick 6-0 lead. Harmarville lit up the scoreboard seven times in all, en route to a devastating 46-20 victory. Crouse did most of the damage to Shanango Valley as he figured in on all but one of the Hurricanes touchdowns. The former Robert Morris signal caller and the team’s current quarterbacks’ coach, hooked up with Conto three times through the air while also collecting two rushing scores. Crouse capped off his night with a receiving touchdown off a reverse. Defensive back Bob Reiter, who was also a solid force of offense, scored the Hurricanes other touchdown as he returned an interception 45 yards midway through the second half. While Harmarville controlled the action for most of the game, the Storm kept the contest somewhat close in the first half. Despite falling into a 14-0 hole early on, Shenango Valley narrowed the gap to six, when quarterback Seth Powell, after bobbling the snap, scrambled to his left and then back toward the middle of the field and found Will Peake in the endzone. Running back Ike Griffin hammered his way to paydirt on the conversion and the Storm seemed to be right back in the game. It didn’t last long as the dynamic duo of Crouse and Conto connected for the second time to help the Hurricanes regain their double-digit lead. While the first score between the two was an easy throw and catch, this time Conto had to battle his way into the endzone. The wideout hauled in a pass on the far sideline around the five-yard line, fought off a defender and was able to give his team a 20-8 lead. Before the half, Shenango Valley again closed within six when Powell connected with Chris Hunt from a few yards away, but that was as close as they would get. The Hurricanes scored the next three touchdowns and finished with an easy 26-point victory.
STEEL CITY SPEED VS. PITTSBURGH REBELS While things didn’t work out for the Steelers on Sunday, another Pittsburgh football team had no problem this past week. The Pittsburgh Rebels encountered a minor bump in the road early in the first half, but easily cruised to a 50-8 victory over Steel City Speed. The Rebels dominated all facets of the game as they received touchdowns from their offense and their defense. They scored through the air and on the ground and it seemed as if everybody was in on the action. Quarterback Larry Carson led the aerial attack as he finished the game with three touchdown passes to receivers Toby Boyd, Jamar White and Chris Clark. On the ground, running back Dave Younkins led the way with two bruising close-range scoring runs. Not to be outdone by their offensive counterparts, two of the Rebels defenders, linebacker Earl Work and defensive end Brandon Carter, added to the barrage. Work scored on a nifty 20-yard interception while Carter rumbled his way to the endzone after recovering a fumble. From start to finish it was total domination. Pittsburgh scored on its opening possession and never looked back. Steel City’s lone bright spot came from quarterback Brad Russell late in the opening half. As he did for most of the game, Russell used his arm and his legs to lead the Speed to their only score with less than two minutes remaining. In the drive, Russell ran the ball three times and connected with four different receivers before hooking up with Dorin Williams from six yards out. On the conversion, Russell continued to show his athleticism as he scrambled in all directions, avoiding numerous defenders, before finding Jeremy Molinaro in the endzone. Steel City trailed 14-8, but it was never that close as the Rebels scored with eight seconds left in the first half to put all Steel City hopes to rest.
