Harrisburg Stampede Release 2011 Schedule, Announce Move to SIFL
HARRISBURG, PA (November 18, 2010) - The Harrisburg Stampede announced their move to the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) and their 2011 regular season schedule; a slate of games which includes six exciting contests at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and six challenging road games throughout the northeast and south.
As members of the SIFL the Stampede will be part of a 16-team league which stretches from New Jersey in the northeast to the Gulf Coast of Texas. The SIFL will be split into five divisions (Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Gulf and Southwest). The Stampede will be part of the Northeast Division with in-state rivals, Erie, and the expansion Trenton Steel.
"We're looking forward to the competition the SIFL will bring to the Stampede. We will continue a great rivalry with Erie and look to build a new one with Trenton," commented Stampede General Manager and Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski.
Looking to build on a successul 2010 season, which saw the Stampede finish the regular season at 11-3 and earn the team's first playoff berth and win before falling in the East Conference championship, Harrisburg will open the 2011 campaign on Sunday, March 20th against Erie at "The Show." Their home schedule also features games against the Richmond Raiders (April 2nd)Trenton Steel (April 23rd), Erie (April 30th), Carolina Speed (May 14th), and Trenton (June 11th).
The Stampede's away schedule will take them on the road from Trenton to Charlotte, North Carolina. Harrisburg's first road test is Sunday March 27th at the Fayetteville Guard. They will also travel to North Carolina on April 8th to face the Speed and have games at Erie (April 15th and June 4th) and Trenton (May 7th and May 21st).
In addition to the teams the Stampede will face in their regular season schedule the SIFL includes the Columbus (GA) Lions, Albany (GA) Panthers, Alabama Hammers, Mobile Bay (AL) Tarpons, Lafayette (LA) Wildcatters, Louisiana Swashbucklers, Houston (TX) Stallions, Corpus Christi (TX) Hammerheads, Rio Grande Valley (TX) Magic, and the Abilene (TX) Ruff Riders.
The expanded SIFL is as a result of a merger between teams from the American Indoor Football Association's East Conference and the SIFL.
