The Tri-Cities Fever continued to bolster its roster this past week, signing five more players that look to make a name for themselves with the Fever in 2011.
The Fever, which finished 7-7 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2007 a year ago, signed two linemen, two defensive backs and a wide receiver.
A week after the Fever re-signed Joey Hew Len, the Fever added receiver Akamu Aki (6-foot, 190 pounds) who is from Weber State. Aki played for the Utah Blaze in the Arena Football League last season, and had 32 catches for 392 yards in a season that was cut short by injury.
The Fever also added defensive backs Nick Patterson (6-2, 200) and Anthony Wiseman (5-9, 185 pounds).
Patterson played contributed for better part of four seasons at Ohio State, while Wiseman was a standout at Maryland. Wiseman signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets, and played in the 38 straight games for the Terrapins. He had 19 pass breakups in his final two seasons at Maryland, tying him for the most in the Atlantic Coast Conference during that span.
The Fever also added, who could be a huge cog in its offensive line, Michael Brown (6-5, 325). Brown was a second-team all SEC lineman in 2008 and signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints. He most recently played in the United Football League. In 2007, Brown was projected as a potential third or fourth round draft pick in the NFL draft.
On defense, the Fever added lineman Malcom Bennett (6-3, 285 pounds) from Appalachian State, where he was a second-team all-conference player in 2008 and 2009.
