Revolution Announce Coaching Staff, Dance Team Tryouts this Weekend
RICHMOND, VA.: SportsQuest and the Richmond Revolution announced today that they have filled out their coaching staff for the 2011 season.
Tommie Williams - Offensive and Special Teams Assistant Coach Tommie joins the Revolution with five seasons of indoor football experience. Williams began his indoor coaching career in 2006 when he was the Wide Receivers, Running Backs and Special Teams Coach for the Omaha Beef of the UIF. Following two seasons at that position, he was promoted to Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Beef in 2008. During that season, his offense broke numerous team records and led the league in rushing at 93.3 yards per game. His quarterback that season was named the UIF "Most Improved Player of the Year", and he helped to send four players to the league All-Star Game following a 10-4 season and playoff berth.
In 2009, the Beef offense finished fourth in the league, averaging 50.3 points per game, and finished second in the league in kick returns at 19.5 yards per return. The Beef won the Central Division of the IFL with an 11-3 record, gaining the distinction of being the only team in the league to beat the eventual champion Billings Outlaws.
Tommie was hired in January of 2010 to be the new Head Coach of the Sioux City Bandits of the IFL, where he had offensive play calling responsibilities as well. He helped to turn around an offense that was ranked at or near the bottom of the IFL in most statistical categories in 2009. Williams' offense ranked sixth overall in the IFL last season, sixth in passing offense, 10th in rushing offense and eighth overall in touchdown passes for the season.
Additionally, on December 4, 2009, Williams was inducted into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, NV.
Larry Long - Defensive and Special Teams Assistant Coach Larry joins the Revolution following four season with the Rochester Raiders, where he served as the Linebackers and Defensive Backs coach, as well as, the Conditioning Coordinator. Long helped to lead the Raiders to the Continental Indoor Football League championship in 2007, and an undefeated regular season in 2008. Coach Long looks to improve on a Revolution defense that ranked next to last in the IFL in passing yards allowed per game in 2010 and continue the strong play of the run defense that ranked second in the league.
