Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are proud to announce the addition of Ryan Leafey to the team for the 2011 season. The Westville, NJ native comes to the Steelhawks after recently starring for Rowan University as a Running Back in the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Leafey, a 5'9, 195 pound shifty running back brings a solid core of athleticism to the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks. While attending Rowan University, Leafey started in 26 games in 4 years for the Owls. In his three years, he carried the ball 226 times averaging 5.1 yards a carry, with 12 touchdowns. Leafey finished off his college career with 1,173 rushing yards.
"Leafey is a player whose game is still on the rise," stated Head Coach Richard Britt. "I truly feel like a season here with the Steelhawks could be a stepping stone for him to reach his goals of playing at the next level."
The team also anticipates signing as many as 12 athletes from Sunday's first open tryout which was held on the Ulrich Athletic Fields at Lehigh University. The Steelhawks are allowed to bring as many as 45 men to training camp in February. Fans are also urged to keep checking the team's website, as the League is set to announce the regular season schedule on Friday afternoon.
