RENO, NV (October 13, 2010) - Former Wolf Pack Lineman Charles Manu has committed to the Reno Barons for 2011. The team has also received commitments from indoor football veterans, defensive back Cedeno Patrick, quarterback DeJoeve Platt, and linebacker and receiver Timothy Robinson Jr.
Charles Manu (6'3 300, Nevada), is a graduate of McQueen High. During his senior year, McQueen captured the 2002 Nevada 4A State Championship with a 14-0 record. Manu then went to Feather River College for two seasons before earning a scholarship to Nevada. In 2005, Manu was part of the WAC title team, playing in 10 games and starting in the last eight at right guard. During his career at UNR, he earned the Nevadatude Award and Basalite Big Blocker honors. In 2008, he was selected to the East-West Shrine game in Houston, after which he signed as an undrafted free agent with the NFL's San Diego Chargers. Manu also spent the spring of 2010 in training camp with the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League and then later played for the Arkansas Diamonds of the IFL.
Cedeno Patrick (6'1 2 205, Delaware State), played for the NJ Revolution from 2008-2010. This past season with the Revolution, he totaled 19.5 tackles, 17 of which were solo which earned him a spot in the 2010 AIFA All-Star Game. During the 2010 season, Patrick moved up to the Tulsa Talons in the Arena Football League but later returned to finish the season with the Revolution. In August of 2010, he was ranked as the 6th best defensive back on the premiere scouting site Beyond Sports Network and in September, BSN ranked him as the 41st best overall player on the site.
DeJoeve Platt (6'2 235, Akron), brings over ten years of experience on the indoor level to the Barons and has been described as having a deadly accurate arm and an extraordinary level of vision. His previous playing experience includes time with the Steubenville Stampede, Steel Valley Smash, and Ohio Valley Greyhounds among others. Platt has also worked out for the CFL's Calgary Stampeders in 2010 and was invited to Eagles camp for the 2010 season but couldn't attend due to a family situation. Out of high school, Platt was drafted by the Expos as a center fielder.
Tim Robinson (6'2 225, Alabama A&M), during his time at A&M, Robinson played both quarterback and receiver. The 2011 season will mark Robinson's fourth in indoor football. Robinson has played for the South Georgia Wildcats of the now defunct Arena Football League 2, Birmingham Steeldogs (af2), Columbus Lions of the defunct World Indoor Football League, and in 2009 he played for Barons Special Teams Coach Jarrod Rogol as a member of the Peoria Pirates (af2).
The Reno Barons will have at least six home games played at the Reno Events Center in 2011. Information on the schedule as well as ticket prices will be announced shortly. Visit the Barons at www.renobarons.com, on Twitter at twitter.com/GoBarons and on Facebook by searching Reno Barons Fan Page.
