In order for a plane to have a successful flight you must have the right people in charge. If Coach Harris and his coaching staff are the equivalent of the pilot and captains then one could say Tim Pierce is in the flight tower, guiding the plane that is the Reno Barons inaugural season as part of the American Indoor Football Association.
Pierce is entering his first season as a general manager in indoor football, but not his first go around in football. In the late 90's Pierce was an assistant coach along with Ron Gonzales at Sanger High School in Sanger, California, where the two a won sectional championship. After that, Pierce moved to Edison High School where he coached: Clifton Smith (RB) who spent the 2008 and 2009 NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bernard Hicks (S) who is currently with the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Brandon Breazell (WR/DB) who spent the 2009 Indoor Football League season with the Amarillo Venom. After his tutelage, Smith played at Fresno State, Hicks at Cal Berkley, and Breazell at UCLA. Another of those Edison High players, Lorenzo Sims Jr. (CB), went on to play for the Colorado Buffalos. Pierce also won a sectional championship at Edison.
"Tim has a way of keeping players grounded and keeps it real," stated Gonzales. "He was always a great motivator."
After leaving Edison High, Pierce moved to Las Vegas to enter the entertainment industry, where he founded STG Pierce Entertainment. During his time in entertainment, Pierce has worked with such stars as Stephen Wesley, who was voted 2008 Artist of the Year, and L.A. based recording artist Erica Flint. The band Hyphy Mobb, which was voted Myspace.com's number 2 band, has also worked with Pierce. Since moving to Vegas, Pierce has also started Camp Touchdown, which is run through STG Pierce Entertainment in partnership with The Ickey Woods Youth Foundation. The Camp Touchdown Shuffle to Success Program aims to develop successful youth. The stated mission reads, "To create and administer programs that will insure that all active participants are accepted into society at their highest potential." Pierce was also involved with a Supreme Cage Fighting event sponsored by Pit Bull Energy Drink and hosted by Barons Owner Chez Jennings, which led to Pierce's hiring with the Barons due to his attention to detail and ability to successfully promote large scale events.
Pierce has helped set perhaps the most unique coaching staff in the AIFA and one that will certainly set future marks for league franchises. At the helm will be the most seasoned coach in the AIFA College Football, Hall of Famer Major Harris, and assisting Harris will be the AIFA's youngest coach Jarrod Rogol.
"Having both Coach Harris and Coach Rogol is a huge advantage for us," stated Pierce. "Coach Harris is a Hall of Famer which speaks for itself. In addition, Coach Rogol is a proven 'young gun' but possesses an 'old school mentality' and Rogol will be to the AIFA what Raheem Morris and Josh McDaniels are to the NFL." The franchise is currently searching for the final piece of their staff, a defensive coordinator.
The Reno Barons will have at least six home games played at the Reno Events Center in 2011. Information on the schedule as well as ticket prices will be announced shortly. Visit the Barons at www.renobarons.com.
