www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080419/FOOTBALL09/804190502/-1/FOOTBALLWith just one day of practice, former University of Pittsburgh quarterback Rod Rutherford had a solid debut with the Erie RiverRats. But the entire team in need of a win already had a leg up on the Baltimore Mariners.
That leg belonged to J.R. Cipra, who put on a kicking display that was a collective boot in the shins against the AIFA indoor football team from his hometown.
Cipra had field goals of 56, 54 and 47 yards, and his three rouges - 60-yard kickoffs that go through the 9-foot- wide goalposts for single point - were like pins in a Mariners voodoo doll in a 55-40 victory Friday night at Tullio Arena before an enthusiastic crowd of 1,800.
"J.R. Cipra is the best kicker in the league, hands down," RiverRats coach Shawn Liotta said. "He charged us up tonight, just like anybody who makes plays. When guys make plays, we feed off each other. And we made plays in all aspects of the game tonight.".......article continues in link. More coverage can be found on the www.indoorfootballfan.com homepage. Erie moves to 4-2 with the victory, while Baltimore falls to 1-5.
