La Crosse, WI: After spending most of the last two weeks focusing on the offensive side of the ball, the La Crosse Spartans turned to the opposite side of the field today. The second-year team signed Amp Boone (5'10", 195 lbs.) formerly with the West Michigan Thunderhawks to a one-year contract. Last season, the Arkansas-Pine Bluff graduate was third on the Thunderhawks in total tackles after playing in just seven games. He started every game and totaled 43 tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. Boone played safety at Arkansas Pine Bluff and both cornerback and safety in the IFL in 2010. "This is a young but very promising defensiveback who we feel will build on his experience from last season," General Manager Chris Kokalis said. "The addition of Amp should make for an exciting competition in our secondary."
The Spartans, entering their second season in the Indoor Football League, were named the 2010 IFL Community Relations Franchise of the Year for their efforts in the community this past season.
Season tickets are now on sale for the 2011 season for as low as $84 and can be purchased by calling 608-782-4461 or by visiting www.lacrossespartans.com.
