LAKE CHARLES – The Southern Indoor Football League announced today that Mobile, Alabama has launched their team and will compete in the upcoming 2011 season.
Thom Hager, President of the SIFL returned after visiting the market and said, “The turnout was more than we ever expected. With only a few days notice, the media showed up in full force and the support was outstanding”.
Ashley Ryan, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Mobile team announced their Name the Team contest and acted as moderator for the event. “We’ve been working on this for about fourteen months and it’s finally a reality. Now we’re asking fans to help us name this team. One idea we’ve decided on is to identify this team as “Mobile Bay” to incorporate the entire bay area.” We urge everyone to visit www.mobilebayindoorfootball.com and submit their favorite team name. Next week we’ll choose the top five names and let fans have the final say”, Ryan continued.
Head Coach Bill McWhorter was like a kid on Christmas morning. He reiterated that he has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly with teams across the country. McWhorter said, “We wanted to do things right, so we researched several leagues and found the best business model out there. The Southern Indoor Football League has a vision that we share. This organization will be here for many years to come”.
“With local support from entrepreneurs Tyler Flowers and his son, this team has all the right elements needed for success”, said Hager. “A great infrastructure, passionate owners, and the support of the local sports authority”, Hager continued. Tyler Flowers stated, “Bud Ratliff (Director of the Mobile Sports Authority) is vital to our success. We will lean on his experience and his wisdom”.
