La Crosse, WI: For the second consecutive day, the La Crosse Spartans organization has made moves to solidify its offense for the team's second season in the IFL. Today, the Spartans traded the rights to running back Ulysses Odoms and wide receiver Lawrence Hellams to the West Michigan Thunderhawks in exchange for offensive lineman Jermaine Pruitt and wide receiver Bryan Pray.
Pray is the highlight of the deal after leading the IFL in receiving yards per game last season snagging 704 yards in just seven games for a 100.6 ypg average. He hauled in 15 touchdowns in 48 receptions for the Thunderhawks including a 152 yard, three touchdown performance against the Spartans last season. "I'm excited to come to La Crosse," Pray said. "The fans there are unbelievable and I'm looking forward to helping build the offense to go with an already great defense."
The Pittsburgh State graduate injured himself after the first seven games in 2010 but will be ready to go for the start of training camp. Prior to his injury, he had five consecutive games with 100 or more yards receiving. Pruitt, is a 6'4", 287 lbs. offensive lineman out of Grand Valley State. He was a first-team All-IFL performer for the El Paso Generals in 2009.
"It's been a great week for the Spartans organization thus far," General Manager Chris Kokalis said. "Picking up a top-level receiver and an outstanding offensive lineman just goes to show that we are making moves to improve this organization. We are excited to have both them for next season. "
The Spartans, entering their second season in the Indoor Football League, were named the 2010 IFL Community Relations Franchise of the Year for their efforts in the community this past season.
Season tickets are now on sale for the 2011 season for as low as $84 and can be purchased by calling 608-782-4461 or by visiting www.lacrossespartans.com.
