Tucson arena football team changes leagues for 2011blog.azbiz.com/2010/09/15/tucson-arena-football-team-changes-leagues-for-2011/Things have been quiet on the end of the Tucson Thundercats, leading some to believe plans for the new arena football team wasn’t going to come to fruition. Arena football will be coming to Tucson, but it will be in a different league than originally planned.
The team has switched leagues for the 2011 season to the American Indoor Football Association from the Indoor Football League. The IFL would have had just two nearby southwestern teams for the Tucson team to play before they would have to travel to Texas to play teams.
The AIFA will have five to six southwestern teams to play, which Thundercats owners liked. They said they wouldn’t rule out a move to the IFL next season if there were more teams to play.
Team officials said they were in the process of the move and wanted to have everything settled before announcing their plans.
The team will be announcing a head coach later in the week. Tryouts for the team will be held Oct. 16 and cheerleader tryouts will be held Oct. 23.
