The Richmond Raiders announced today the hiring of Chris Simpson as their new head coach for the 2011 season. Simpson led the Baltimore Mariners to the 2010 American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) Championship as well as to a perfect 14-0 regular season record.
"We are ecstatic to have Chris Simpson leading the Raiders in 2011," team owner Elizabeth Fraizer said today. "He brings a tremendous amount of indoor football knowledge along with a successful track record. He also shares the Raiders commitment to community through his various volunteer activities."
Chris Simpson has a long and distinguished football career both as a coach and player. He was a starting cornerback in college for the Arizona Wildcats from 1981-84 and was a member of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad in 1986-87. Simpson began his professional coaching career in 1992 with the River City Gamblers. Since then, Simpson served as the Head Coach in Baltimore since 2007 and previously was the Head Coach of the San Angelo Stampede and the Lincoln Capitals of the NIFL.
"It is a privilege and an honor to be new Head Coach of the Richmond Raiders," Simpson said. "I am excited about the opportunity ahead in 2011 and to be a p art of the Raiders organization here in my home state of Virginia. The Raiders are committed to competing for a championship next season while putting on a great show for our fans at the Richmond Coliseum."
