LAKE CHARLES, LA - The Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) made the tough call today and respectively denied Progressive Sports & Entertainment Group admission to the SIFL for the 2011 season. League President Thom Hager stated, "We love the Rome market. Rome fits perfectly in our vision for expansion. PS&EG has worked diligently to assemble an infrastructure; however the league has established requirements to insure the viability and sustainability of our teams. If a prospective owner is not willing or able to comply, our experience is that the member will not be able to provide the fans and league the level of professionalism expected of a new SIFL team.
SIFL Commissioner, Gary Tufford stated, "It's everyone's dream to own their own professional team, but not everyone has the resources needed to fully meet the financial requirements. I've seen so many fans lose out when their team was forced to fold due to lack of funding. As Commissioner of the SIFL, I've made a commitment not to allow this to happen under my watch", continued Tufford. "When a team folds, everyone loses - the city, the league, the players, and especially the fans. If a group doesn't meet our pre-season financial deadlines, it's a sure sign they will struggle throughout the entire season. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the fans of Rome and the former owner of the Renegades, Harry Pierce. Harry poured his passion into the Rome Renegades. The fans in Rome deserve our best as well. Now it's up to us to find the right ownership group for Rome."
Hager added, "We believe we have the best business model for indoor football. We also believe that if an ownership group is financially prepared to establish their infrastructure during the pre-season, they will be able to field a team and meet their financial obligations without issues."
The Southern Indoor Football League is fan-focused league dedicated to providing sustainable sports entertainment in its host communities with an emphasis on family entertainment, player safety, and high quality football.
