Green Bay, WI - The Green Bay Blizzard and Head Coach Rik Richards are excited to announce the signing of the team's first two players for the 2011 season. "We are extremely happy to have landed two great offensive players form the MEAC, and look forward to watching them progress in the Indoor game in 2011" stated Head Coach Rik Richards. Art Clarkson, the Blizzard's Chief Operations Officer added "It's extremely exciting to see our roster start to take shape again; the effort being put forth by Coach Richards to assemble another championship caliber roster is very impressive." The two newest members of the Blizzard are Quarterback Dennis Brown and Wide Receiver Chris Bell. Brown and Bell are once again teammates as they were both members of the Norfolk State Spartans in 2009.
WR Chris Bell (6'3, 210lbs): Chris Bell was a member of the New Orleans Saints this spring and was released June 12th. Bell was selected First-Team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for the 2009 college football season as voted on by the MEAC head football coaches and sports information directors. Bell paced the MEAC in total receiving yards (958), receiving yards per game (87.1) and total touchdowns (13). He also led the league with five 100-yard receiving games, and his 213-yard performance against Bethune-Cookman ranks as the ninth-best game in all of Division I FCS that season. He was also ranked 13th in the nation in receiving yards. Bell caught a TD pass in the final six games of the season and had four games with two touchdowns.
QB Dennis Brown (6'3, 202lbs): Brown started all 23 games under center for the Spartans the last two seasons. The University of Connecticut transfer finished his NSU career second in school history in total offense (4,617 yards) and fourth in passing yards (3,771). Last season, Brown passed for 18 touchdowns and 2,228 yards, third-most for any quarterback in Spartan history. He also ran for 846 yards in his two years with the school, which is believed to be a school record for a quarterback.
