The Reno Barons are proud to announce that they will play their 2011 inaugural season as part of the American Indoor Football Association Western Conference (AIFA). The AIFA provided the regional competition, administrative flexibility and similarity in mission that the Barons felt would best serve the team and the Reno community.
The AIFA, founded in 2006 by Michael Mink and John Morris, has focused on maintaining regionalized play to keep costs low in order for owners to maximize each team's operating capital. This practice allows owners to provide fast paced, fan-friendly professional football at affordable prices.
"It's all about building the right foundation," stated Tim Pierce, The Barons' Director of Football Operations. "Michael and John began by forming a team to honor family and to give back to the community. They focused the team on helping young men get a second chance in the game of football and it's grown into the AIFA. That's the kind of foundation we want."
AIFA co-founder Michael Mink, who worked to close the deal, said, "We are excited to have The Reno Barons playing in the AIFA Western Conference for their 2011 inaugural season. They will help to solidify AIFA West."
Additional teams may also join the conference for 2011, but The Barons are guaranteed to play at least six home games in the AIFA Western Conference regular season; They are slated to play Western Conference Champions Wyoming Cavalry, as well as Wenatchee Valley Venom, Yakima Valley Warriors, San Jose Wolves and possibly two other conference opponents.
Tickets will be affordable. The action and entertainment will be the best possible for the money spent. And the hope is to have plenty of local players.
Player tryouts will be conducted by Barons' head coach, Major Harris on September 17, 2010. Pre-registration is now available by going to www.renobarons.com.
