www.fayobserver.com/article?id=291319The body language portrayed by Fayetteville Guard cornerback J.R. Hair explained it all as he knelt on one knee in the waning seconds of Sunday’s American Indoor Football Association game with the Florence Phantoms.
After helping his team jump out to a 31-7 halftime lead, behind a special teams touchdown and two interceptions, Hair and the rest of the Guard secondary watched Phantoms wide receiver A.J. Bennett cut across field and race down the right sideline for the game-winning, 45-yard touchdown in the final minute.
Florence grabbed its first lead of the game with 18.7 seconds remaining with Bennett’s score and prevailed 39-38 over Fayetteville at the Crown Coliseum, spoiling the Guard’s second opportunity for a win at home in front of an estimated crowd of 4,500 on Operation Welcome Home day.
Fayetteville (0-3) had a chance to win with nine seconds left, after Walter Ford returned the ensuing kickoff inside Florence’s 10-yard line. Guard quarterback Duane Taylor was sacked on the next play, forcing a field goal attempt from the Phantoms 15 with 1.2 seconds left.....article continues in link. Florence moves to 2-2 with the victory, while Fayetteville drops to 0-3. More coverage on the www.indoorfootballfan.com homepage.
