Green Bay, WI: The Green Bay Blizzard is excited to announce that Head Coach Rik Richards will return to the Blizzard bench for the 2011 season. Under Richards' guidance, the Blizzard navigated through their inaugural IFL season with a 10-5 record and a North Central Division title, and their first IFL playoff appearance in team history. Richards said, "I am happy to have signed an extension that keeps me in Green Bay for the foreseeable future trying to bring a championship here to these great fans, and our ownership." He went on to say, "Signing here in mid November of last year, we got a late start, but were still able to get a Division Championship, and 10 wins. We look forward to bigger and better things in 2011, go Blizzard!"
Art Clarkson, the Chief Operating Officer of the Blizzard spoke on behalf of the ownership group and stated that, "We like Rik's attitude that is 'LETS WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP IN2011'."
Richards will be entering his 12th seasons as an arena/indoor coach with a record of 70-33. Richards has a football resume that spans more than a decade, including extensive experience specializing in the indoor game. He has worked with twelve arena/indoor football teams, including seven stints as a head coach. Prior to coming to Green Bay, Richards was the Head Coach in Missouri with the River City Rage of the Indoor Football League compiling a 9-3 record before leaving. He spent 2006 and 2007 with the Rock River Raptors. As the Head Coach and Director of Football Operations, Rik guided the Raptors to the United Football League Central Division Championship in 2006 and Eastern Conference crown in 2007. In two seasons, the Raptors led the UIF in pass defense and ranked second in overall defense. In 2004, Richards was named the Head Coach/Director of Football Operations and General Manager of the expansion Richmond Bandits of the American Indoor Football League. He guided the team to the Inaugural League Championship finishing the year with an 11-1 record. From 2003 until 2004, Richards became the first Head Coach for the AF2's Mohegan Wolves which moved to Manchester. In 2002 Richards became the youngest Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator in professional football for the AF2's Charleston Swamp Foxes. He led the team to a franchise best 9-7 record. Prior to Charleston, Richards spent a season as the defensive line and special teams coach with the Bismarck Blaze of the original IFL. The Richards led defense posted an impressive 13-4 record, leading the IFL in total defense. A native of Seattle, Washington, Richards also serves as the Associate Vice President of Collegiate Scouting for the Florida based Scouting Bureau and Draft Data Association. Richards has sent 27 players to the NFL.
