Macungie native Tim Glase has been hired as the general manager for the Reading Express professional indoor football team.
The hiring of Glase, who has been involved in the sports industry for more than 10 years, was announced Wednesday by Express owner Ted Lavender. Glase and Chris Thompson, who was hired as head coach in July, will be formally introduced at a press conference Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the Crowne Plaze Hotel in Wyomissing.
"Tim's experience and background is a natural complement to the talent of the existing staff," Lavender said. "Tim's formal education in sports management, track record of results in the sports industry and his dedication to volunteerism fit perfectly into our vision for the future of Reading Express. We anticipate Tim to play a key role in developing our partnership programs and making our game days unforgettable."
Glase will be responsible for overall business and team operations. He replaces Bernie Nowotarski, who was head coach and general manager for the Express before leaving during his fourth season as GM in what the organization called a mutual decision.
Prior to joining the Express, Glase was director of marketing and consultant for Valley Preferred Cycling Center. He was part of the editorial staff of Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Daily, the leading daily publication on the business of sports.
Glase also held positions with various motor sports organizations and played an integral part in helping NASCAR launch its "Drive for Diversity" minority participant development program in 2004.
"I am thrilled to be part of this great organization," Glase said. "This is an exciting time for the Reading Express as we aim to expand our scope. Our focus will be on conducting a fan-driven and corporate partner-driven business and winning football games while representing our fans, partners and city in a professional manner."
