AFL Announces Broadcast Partnership with Eurosport 2
TULSA- The Arena Football League is pleased to announce a broadcasting partnership with Eurosport 2, part of the Eurosport Group, Europe's leading sports channel. Eurosport 2 will be showing the NFL Network Arena Football Friday games on a tape delay. The AFL previously broadcasted on Eurosport 2 during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
"Europe is a key market for the AFL in its interest to grow internationally, and this partnership allows the AFL to once again enter into European living rooms and sports bars," Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz said. "I am pleased to team up with Eurosport 2, a dynamic channel available in 46 countries and this confirms the fact that there is an interest for the great game of Arena Football on a global basis. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with the Eurosport Group."
The European broadcast schedule begins this week when the Chicago Rush visit the Tampa Bay Storm, and will continue all the way through ArenaBowl XXIII, scheduled to take place August 20. Eurosport 2 will also be airing the 2011 season in its entirety, culminating with ArenaBowl XXIV in August 2011. The games will be shown on the Saturday following the game in prime time Central European Time (CET); however, times and dates may vary. European fans should be sure to check with their television provider for the exact broadcast schedule.
The deal was negotiated by Stephen Smith, Principal at SCS Event & Sports Services, and Kurz, who was instrumental in all of the AFL's twenty-one (21) international games, the AFL's previous international training camps and the AFL's International Player Program. SCS Services is the AFL's International Development Consulting Agency based in Frankfurt, Germany.
