The Sarasota Scorpions have been crowned the 2010 Regional Indoor Football League Champions. The Scorpions went undefeated on the year and ended the season with a shutout against the Delmarva Bayriders. The defense posted 4 shutouts in 5 games. Sarasota GM Alton Walker said "It was a great showcase season for the RIFL. After everything that happened at the beginning of the season, we were able to continue on and get through it. The Sarasota Scorpions are very proud to be the first RIFL Champions." "Next year is going to be awesome all the way around", Walker said. "And the Scorpions will be a force to be dealt with in the RIFL." Walker and RIFL partner Ray Damon are pretty pleased with the league's initial season. Damon stated "Whenever a business is in their initial year things don't always go as planned. In our case lots of things didn't go as planned. And the frustrating part was that none of it was within our control. But we learned a lot and we wouldn't quit. And the league is in a great position now because of that and we are anxiously awaiting next season. Everything is in place for the RIFL to be a great league for a long time." RIFL commissioner Earl Christy said " I'm looking forward to being the Commissioner of this league. The Scorpions are a first class organization and I hope we can fill the RIFL with many teams like them. We are looking forward to giving players a chance to get to the next level, be it in the AFL, CFL or NFL."
