Wolfpack Host Fort Wayne in CIFL Playoffs Saturday Night
June 15 (MADISON) - The Wisconsin Wolfpack (8-2) will host the Fort Wayne FireHawks (6-4) at the Hartmeyer Arena in Madison, Wis., in the first round of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) playoffs. The game begins at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6 p.m.
The Wolfpack and FireHawks met twice during the regular season with the Wolfpack winning both games. The Wolfpack pitched the fifth shutout in the five-year history of the CIFL, and the first in the two-year history of the team, against the FireHawks in Fort Wayne on April 16, 49-0. It was the first game with the Wolfpack for former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Matt Schabert.
The FireHawks nearly shocked the Wolfpack at the Hartmeyer Arena two weeks later on May 1. The Wolfpack needed a goal line stand as time expired to hold onto a 33-32 victory.
Both teams are coming off a long break in action. The Wolfpack haven't played since a May 29 home victory over the top-seeded Cincinnati Commandos (9-1), 45-21.
The FireHawks last played in Villa Park, Ill., on June 5, a 48-0 victory. The shutout made CIFL history as the FireHawks became the first team in league history to be shutout and pitch a shutout in the same season.
The winner will move onto the CIFL Championship game and will play the winner of the Commandos and Miami Valley Silverbacks (4-6) game that takes place on Friday, June 18 in Cincinnati. If Cincinnati wins, the CIFL Championship will be played in Cincinnati. If the Silverbacks win, the game will be played in either Madison or Fort Wayne.
Tickets are available online at www.wiwolfpack.com/store. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the game. Regular season tickets will not be accepted for the playoff game. Ticket prices remain the same; $10 for general admission, $15 for "In the Game", and $30 for the all-inclusive Wolf Zone. In addition, tickets for children five and under are $5 and school age children are $6.
