Revolution One Win From Home Field Advantage Throughout Post Season
The Revolution 12‐1 record clinched the Atlantic East Division Championship and guaranteed the team will play its first two playoff games at home. A win in their last regular season game this Saturday night will guarantee the Revolution plays all post season games at its Ashe Center home, including the IFL Championship game currently scheduled for July 17, 2010, which will be played on National Television in front of a potential audience of 50 million people.
Averaging over 3,000 fans in attendance, Revolution games, referred to as the Bash at the Ashe, have proven to be very popular this season. The Revolution have consistently been one of the IFL league leaders in attendance and sold a record number - over 2,200 - season tickets for an expansion team. Fans have been consistently provided family friendly, highly entertaining football played by talented local players who excelled in Virginia Colleges and Universities.
The Revolution, nicknamed by SportsQuest CEO Steve Burton the "Cardiac Kids" because 10 of their 12 wins have been decided in the final few minutes of play, went into overdrive this week. In a statement - we are ready for post season play - the Revolution rolled over division rival Maryland Maniacs 74‐14. Revolution's 74 points was the second highest team score in IFL history. Revolution's 12‐1 record ties the IFL record for most wins in a season. A win in their last regular season game this weekend would give them sole possession of this record.
Revolution Assistant GM, Charlie Hildbold reflected on the team performance stating, "I'm impressed with our team's commitment and desire to excel; in every game players on both sides of the ball step up and make big plays when we need it." It was exemplified this week on a critical play midway through the second half. Maryland, attempting to mount a comeback, executed an excellent drive down field. However, DB Demarcus James, foiled Maryland's plans with his league‐leading 9th interception on the goal line. James brought down the house as he scampered the entire length of the field, appeared to be stopped on the ten, only to pitch to A.D. Hale who took the ball in for his first indoor TD.
QB Bryan Randall, former VA Tech standout, turned in another excellent performance orchestrating the Revolution offense by throwing for 4 TD passes and running for another. WRs Damon "Redd" Thompson and Aaron Alexander each caught two TDs, while former James Madison star Rodney Landers ran for two TDs. Randall has a total of 55 TDs and only 14 interceptions - placing him second in the IFL for offensive scoring. Randall's impressive ability to lead the Revolution to victory game‐after‐game makes him a strong candidate this season for "IFL Rookie of the Year."
Former Univ of Richmond DT Sherman "the Tank" Logan forced a fumble and ran for his career first‐ever defensive TD.
Get Ready for Monday Night Playoff Football at the Ashe SportsQuest leadership announced that the first playoff game will be played on Monday, June 28. "We wanted to give everyone in Richmond the opportunity to enjoy the Revolution post season Championship run by moving the playoff games to Monday night," said Phil Evans, Revolution General Manager, "summer weekends are hectic for most families and Monday Night Football games will give our fans the ability to support the Revolution without sacrificing their family weekend commitments." "I loved the idea when Phil told me about it," commented Burton, "after all, Monday Night Football is a huge football tradition."
