RICHMOND, VA.: The Richmond Revolution, along with the Indoor Football League announced their players of the week for week 14 of the IFL season. For the second time this season, the Revolution were the recipients of a weekly award, with LB Vince Hall (Virginia Tech) being named Defensive Player of the Week.
LB Vince Hall, playing in his 8th game of the season with the Revolution won his first league award for his performance against the Central North Division leading Green Bay Blizzard this past Saturday, May 29. Hall recorded 8.5 tackles during the game, 2.5 for loss, while being credited with .5 sack along with fellow defensive players LB Louis Corum (Shepherd) and DE Sherman Logan (Richmond). Hall also contributed a forced fumble and fumble recovery in the Revolution's 54-44 victory. Over the course of his first season in the IFL, Hall has made an instant impact on defense. Through 8 games with the Revolution Hall has compiled 50 tackles, to rank 4th on the team, as well as 4 sacks, which ranks 3rd.
"Vince was excited to join us and come play football again. He's been learning more and more every week he's been here" said Revolution Head Coach Steve Criswell. "He brings a lot of talent and ability to the linebacker position and he's really starting to excel here in the IFL."
TEAM PREPARES FOR FINAL ROAD GAME AT MARYLAND
The Revolution will make the short trip up to College Park, MD on Saturday morning for their final road game of the regular season. The team enters the game with a division championship in hand, and a guaranteed home game for the first round of the playoffs, with home field advantage throughout the playoffs left to play for. As has been the case throughout the season, the Revolution have dominated the scoreboard, while ranking near the bottom on the league in yards gained as well as yards allowed. Currently the team is ranked 7th in the league in points per game, 45.3, and points allowed per game, 36.8, but ranked near the bottom of the league is all of the yardage totals. The Revolution are 18th in total yards as well as passing yards, 20th in yards allowed and 24th in passing yards allowed.
One of the reasons the defense gives up a lot of yards, but not a lot of points is due to the 2009 IFL Special Teams Player of the Year, Demarcus James. James currently leads the league in interceptions with 8, as well as interception yards with 190. The yardage number is so large this year, due to two of James' interceptions occurring in the end zone and being taken back the length of the field for a touchdown.
The Revolution also have a player of the year candidate in QB Bryan Randall who is continuing to put up fantastic numbers in his first season in the IFL. The last three weeks have seen Randall throw and run for a combined 22 touchdowns, while throwing only 2 interceptions. Throughout the season, playing in all 12 games, Randall has totaled 51 touchdowns passing, which is 2nd in the league, to go along with his 11 rushing touchdowns.
Kickoff in College Park is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Saturday, June 5th. Revolution fans unable to attend the game can watch it live on www.b2livetv.com. The team returns home the next week for a home game on Saturday June 12th against the Rochester Raiders. Tickets are available by calling the SportsQuest membership center at (804)595-theQ (8437) or by visiting the Revolution website at www.richmondrevolution.com.
