San Jose coach: Bennie King (2nd season)
Wenatchee Valley coach: Brian Smith (1st season)
Last week: After the Venom lost a heartbreaker 52-48 to the Arctic Predators, they fired head coach Keith Evans and promoted Smith to interim head coach. The Wolves kept rolling, however, beating the Ogden Knights 71-12 to improve to 7-1 this season.
San Jose’s player to watch: Wide receiver A.J. Bennett has been the main target for QB Omar Jacobs. Bennett is tied for second in the AIFA with 14 TD receptions, and he is second in the league with an average of 86.3 receiving yards per game.
Wenatchee Valley’s player to watch: Running back Travis Rhone totaled an impressive 71 yards and four touchdowns on the ground against the Predators, and on the season is second in the AIFA with 41.5 rushing yards per game.
Keys for San Jose: If the Wolves don’t put the game away early, they could find themselves in a dogfight with a hungry Wenatchee Valley team.
Keys for Wenatchee Valley: The Venom need to shore up their play in the secondary to contain Jacobs and his receivers. Jacobs threw six touchdowns in the Wolves’ win over Wenatchee Valley two weeks ago, and if that happens again, the score will be much the same.
