KENNEWICK -- At what point does an Indoor Football League team start to panic after a slow start?
It depends on who you ask.
"We don't need to panic yet," said Tri-Cities Fever owner Teri Carr, whose 1-5 team hosts the 2-6 Alaska Wild at 7 p.m. today at Toyota Center. "I think we're at the point in the season that right now everything matters. We don't have any room for a whole lot of mistakes anymore."
She's right. Even with a 1-5 record, the Fever is still just one game out of being among the eight Intense Conference teams that would make the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Wild coach Darnell Lee says his team has arrived at Panic-ville.
"We've been in panic mode for the last few weeks," Lee said Friday night. "We're not only competing against each other, but we're competing against the Lone Star Division teams down in Texas, where the top eight of 12 teams make the playoffs."
Both Lee and Fever coach Adam Shackleford see mirror images of each other's team in tonight's matchup.
"They remind me a lot of us," Shackleford said of the Wild. "They look good at times and then they tend to make mistakes that end up hurting them."
Lee countered, "They're just like us. It's just a matter of time before they put it all together. I just don't want them to put it together against us."
The Wild has lost five in a row, and Lee said his team will be without starting QB Donald Carrie (hamstring), who was injured in the team's loss to Fairbanks last week.
Meanwhile, Fever QB Andy Collins (shoulder) may not play tonight, either. If he doesn't, rookie Houston Lillard will get the call.
