• Venom at Wolves
• When: Saturday, 7 p.m.
• Radio: None
• San Jose head coach: Bennie King (second season)
• Wenatchee Valley head coach: Keith Evans (first season)
• Last week: The Venom were blitzed by the two-time defending Western Conference champions Wyoming Cavalry 68-28. The Wolves had a bye, but they fell to the same Cavalry 54-25 two weeks ago.
• San Jose’s player to watch: Quarterback Omar Jacobs is fifth in the league in passing yards per game at 197.2, and he led the Wolves’ offense in an 82-point outburst against Yakima Valley on April 10.
• Wenatchee Valley’s player to watch: Quarterback Neal Sharma will make his first start for the Venom Saturday. Sharma was signed during the team’s two-week layoff earlier in the month, and was 3-for-8 for eight yards and an interception in limited playing time against Wyoming.
• Keys for San Jose: The Wolves certainly have one of the most dynamic offenses in the AIFA, but they have holes in their defense that were exposed in their 54-25 loss to Wyoming, mainly in the secondary. They’ll have to contain Wenatchee Valley’s bevy of capable receivers to come out on top.
• Keys for Wenatchee Valley: The Venom’s offensive line took a step backwards against Wyoming last week, as the Cavalry racked up four sacks and limited the rushers to just 11 yards on the ground. The O-line will have to figure things out against San Joe to help the running backs get back on track, which will help ease the pressure on Sharma.
