WENATCHEE — Though last week’s unexpected forfeit win over the Ogden Knights threw a wrench into the Wenatchee Valley Venom’s plans, it’s not all bad for the now 2-2 squad.
The Venom never made the trip to Utah last Saturday, as a dispute between the Knights and their arena left them without a home. So while the Venom was disappointed to not get out on the field, they had an extra week off added to their bye this week, giving them plenty of time to prepare for their highly-anticipated rematch with the Wyoming Cavalry at Town Toyota Center on April 24.
“Offensively we’re just sharpening everything up,” Venom coach Keith Evans said.
The Venom lost a 48-46 nailbiter in overtime at Wyoming March 26 in a game that was marred by questionable officiating, and the team is determined to get a win against the two-time defending AIFA Western Conference champs.
“We have a big game next week,” Evans said. “We know we can score on Wyoming. ... I don’t see us going to OT again with Wyoming. We just have to play the game.”
The Venom will have at least one new player by the time the Cavalry comes to town.
Backup quarterback Devin Hollins recently asked for and was granted his release for personal reasons, but Wenatchee Valley has added quarterback Neil Sharma, a 6-foot-3 Eastern Washington University alum who has experience in the indoor game.
Evans added that the team is also looking to add some defensive players to the roster, although nothing is official.
