KENNEWICK -- The Tri-Cities Fever added two more players this week, signing wide receiver Craig Turner and defensive end Ameer Ismail as the team prepares for a 3 p.m. game Sunday at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
Turner played last season for Rio Grande Valley in the af2, and he ranked fourth in the league with an average of 25 yards a return.
A three-year starter at defensive back at Southern Illinois, Turner had been with the AFL's Arizona Rattlers this spring before getting waived March 30.
Ismail played at Western Michigan as a linebacker and had a cup of coffee in the Kansas City Chiefs' training camp before being released. He led the nation in 2006 with 17 sacks.
The Fever (1-3) released defensive back Ryan Kelly and wide receivers Tim Simmons and LaReylle Cunningham. In addition, defensive lineman Pernell Booth was put on the Refusal to Report list.
Simmons was signed last week, but never played, while Cunningham did play in a couple games for the Fever -- as did Booth.
NOTES
-- Fever defensive back Montavis Pitts was named the league's defensive player of the week after he intercepted two passes -- returning one for a touchdown -- in Tri-Cities' 44-39 victory over Fairbanks last Saturday. Pitts also had 9 1/2 tackles in the game.
Kent's Dre' Mail Hardin was named the league's special teams player of the week after he returned a kickoff 54 yards for a touchdown in the closing seconds to give the Predators a 59-54 victory at home against the Alaska Wild.
The Wild had just scored the go-ahead touchdown to lead 54-53 with just 8 seconds remaining in the game before Hardin's heroics.
Billings quarterback Chris Dixon was the league's offensive player of the week, giving the Pacific North Division all three players of the week. Dixon had nine touchdown passes in a 71-47 win over the Colorado Ice.
-- Kent (2-3) made a few changes this week, too. The Predators added defensive backs Travis Motley and Maurice Holmes, and defensive lineman Aloalo Lealofi. Among those released was former Fever running back Jarvis Dunn.
-- The Toyota Center, the Tri-City Americans and Fever all announced that the Ams' scheduled Game 5 against the Vancouver Giants, originally set for April 24 at 1 p.m. in the Toyota Center, will now be played on Friday, April 23.
The original schedule had the Ams-Giants playing at 1 p.m. that day, then the Fever and Billings kicking off later that night at 7 p.m.
But the Fever's lease calls for the field to be available six hours before kickoff, so it couldn't work time-wise.
