OGDEN -- In the unique sporting platform that is indoor football, Week 2 is usually a better indicator of what a team can do rather than opening weekend.
So while the Ogden Knights could find some bright spots in battling the Wyoming Cavalry tough last Monday, tonight's game with the San Jose Wolves will be a better test of how Ogden could fare in the American Indoor Football Association Western Conference.
Never underestimate what 60 minutes of real-time experience can do for both game operations and the on-the-field product.
"We're a very hungry football team right now," said Ogden coach Doug Coleman."We got the jitters out of our system and now we're ready to go, even though this has been a short week.
Last week was the first time many players stepped on a field -- literally -- with the Golden Spike Events Center booked for a rodeo last weekend.
"We've had a full week of practice there and we're used to it," Coleman said.
Ogden lost 54-40 to Wyoming but saw a lot of positives, including a solid debut for quarterback Jeremy Glover, who ran for three touchdowns and threw for two.
"We have to continue slowing the game down for Jeremy," Coleman said. "I liked how we were aggressive ... we just didn't finish the game."
While Ogden fell to Wyoming, San Jose clobbered the Wasilla (Alaska) Artic Predators 64-12.
The Wolves aren't your father's expansion team, but they are one of those expansion teams where a collection from one team moves to another.
Coach/GM Bennie King has been involved in two of the AIFA's three championships. He was GM for the Lakeland Thunderbolts in 2007 and took some of those players to Florence (S.C) where that team won the 2008 title before completely deteriorating in 2009, but five of those players, including QB Omar Jacobs, have made their way to San Jose.
Among those players is QB Omar Jacobs, a fifth-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers whose been in three NFL training camps.
"We're not your typical expansion team," King said."This team was built for competing right away. We've brought in a core and built around it."
San Jose won a preseason game 48-16 earlier this month.
