WASILLA — The Arctic Predators professional indoor football baptism is now only six weeks away.
The Arctic Predators will make their American Indoor Football Association debut March 20 against the San Jose Wolves in San Jose, Calif.
“It doesn’t seem like there’s enough time, it seems so short,” the Predators’ Hans Deemer said Monday morning. “But we’ll be ready to play the game.” Deemer has worked for more than a year to bring professional indoor football to the Mat-Su Valley. Now he’s less than two months away from seeing his dream turn to a reality.
“When we started this journey to make this happen, it seemed so far away,” Deemer said. “Now it’s so close.”
The expansion Predators will play a 14-game schedule. Seven of those games will be on the road, and the Wasilla-based organization will host seven games.
The Predators will make their home debut March 28 against the Yakima Valley Warriors, a squad based in Yakima, Wash.
The Wasilla team’s schedule will take the Predators to California, Washington, Wyoming and Utah throughout the regular season, which starts in late March and ends in late July.
The Predators will play home games against the Wyoming Cavalry (April 10); the Wenatchee, Wash., Venom (May 8); the Ogden, Utah, Knights (May 29); Wyoming (June 5); San Jose (June 19) and Ogden (June 26).
Most games will be played on Saturday night, but the Predators’ home opener is scheduled for a Sunday.
Deemer said he’s happy with the look of the team’s schedule. The Predators’ longest road trip is only two weeks, and the team’s bye weeks come after the fourth week of the regular season.
“I’ve had some crazy six-week road trips in the past,” said Deemer, a former head coach of the Indoor Football League’s Alaska Wild. “The schedule looks real good for a first year team.”
