When the Blizzard played in arenafootball2, its name was owned by af2's parent, the AFL. Both those leagues folded last fall.
“Our goal was to keep the Blizzard name,” team owner and president Jeff Royle said in a statement issued by the team. “It took us by surprise when we found out the former ownership group did not own the rights to the team nickname so it took some time to reach a deal to keep the name.”
Last month, Titletown Football Group conducted a name-the-team contest in case a new name was needed.
Although the team will remain the Blizzard, Royle said there will be changes “to the design of the uniforms, helmets and merchandise.”
