www.amarillo.com/stories/121809/loc_local1.shtmlThe Amarillo Dusters got an early Christmas gift Thursday, one they were expecting. The Dusters announced the signing of quarterback Julian Reese during a news conference at the Amarillo Civic Center.
Reese, who rejoined the Dusters midway through last season after serving as an assistant coach with the Amarillo Independent School District, played in seven games, passing for 1,984 yards and 40 touchdowns. He is Amarillo's all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
"Ending last season, that was a terrible way to go out with only three wins," said Reese, who led the Dusters to the Intense Football League title in 2004. "I love Amarillo. Amarillo has treated me real well. What Coach (Jon) Lyles brings to the table is great for me. Those are some of the things that brought me back."
The Dusters, under former head coach Ben Bennett, went 3-13 last season in af2. Lyles, a former Dusters assistant coach, was named head coach in November.
The Dusters will be part of the Indoor Football League's LoneStar West Division, along with the Abilene Rough Riders, the El Paso Generals and the Odessa Roughnecks. The 2010 IFL season starts Feb. 26, with Amarillo tentatively set to begin March 14.
